You are greater than the roles you play.

Finding a great career, a partner to love, starting a family, and experiencing bucket-list adventures means that you’ve taken the right steps—”you’ve made it!” It signals that the struggle has been worth it, but can leave you feeling like you’re playing a part rather than living your true life.

If the outward success has left you still feeling unsatisfied and the pressure to “have it all” is an overwhelming, unrealistic way of living,

We help you get clear on what matters most to you.

About Us

Why Work With
Mid-Atlantic Psychotherapy

We believe that everyone deserves to find some calm amidst life’s challenges.

When you’re struggling with holding it all together, prioritizing everyone else’s needs over your own, or just trying to understand how to make life a little easier, it can be hard to know what you need or where to start. There are so many competing priorities that you feel overwhelmed and alone in a life that isn’t giving you enough connection, acknowledgement, or ease. We want to help you create a life that feels balanced, successful, and aligned with your core values.

At Mid-Atlantic Psychotherapy, our clinicians help you align your behaviors and decisions with your core values. You’ll have a greater sense of confidence and greater sense of ease moving through your day.

Our goal is for you to leave therapy feeling greater mental clarity to make deliberate decisions that bring happiness to your life.

With over 40 years of combined experience, our therapy practice was built on the philosophy that no one should have to go through the hardships of life alone and that with the right help, you can quiet the chaos of day-to-day life, prioritize your mental health, and live a life with greater ease and satisfaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mid-Atlantic Psychotherapy strives to provide exceptional care to our patients. We understand that navigating the world of health insurance can be confusing and sometimes overwhelming.

Mid-Atlantic has providers on our team who are in-network providers with CareFirst PPO and CareFirst FEP. Our billing team can verify your benefits and you will be charged according to your required copay, deductible, and/or coinsurance.

If you have a health insurance policy from another provider you can use your out-of-network benefits to reimburse you for a portion of the rate you pay for therapy. Some out-of-network benefits can be quite generous and will cover a significant portion of your therapy costs. This means that you will pay for the cost of your session at the time of service and then request a Superbill from your provider. You will then need to submit your Superbill to your insurance company per their reimbursement process. Using your out-of-network benefits may even be a similar out-of-pocket cost as an in-network copay, deductible, or coinsurance.

If you are unsure about your in-network or out-of-network benefits, contact our Practice Coordinator at (571) 771-1989 and we may be able to help.

Mid-Atlantic Psychotherapy fully recognizes the barriers many people face when attempting to seek care. We are in full support of you using your in-network or out-of-network benefits to access high quality mental health care. We also know that many people are unaware that when you use your health care benefits, your insurance company:
1) requires that your mental health diagnosis be documented,
2) will only reimburse for therapy that is medically necessary, and
3) has the right to request your records from your provider to ensure the acuity of your symptoms meets their predetermined standards. This is true for in-network or out-of-network benefits.

If you would like to consider paying for your therapy without the interference of your insurance company, please call our office and ask to speak to our Practice Coordinator at (571) 771-1989. We are committed to helping you make the best decision about how to pay for your therapy.

When your next appointment is scheduled, our clinicians prioritize this time just for you, often, on a weekly basis. We require at least 24 hours’ notice for session cancellations. The full rate of your session ($185-$250) is charged to you personally (not your insurance) when cancellations are made in the 24-hour window prior to your appointment. Insurance does not reimburse canceled appointments,

If you know you won’t be able to make your next appointment, you can change your appointment time in your Patient Portal. Rescheduling your appointment with the maximum amount of time allows us to help support someone else who may be suffering.

We have streamlined your intake process by investing in a HIPAA-compliant Electronic Health Record system called SimplePractice. When you schedule your first appointment with your clinician, you’ll be sent an email with quick and easy steps for accessing your Patient Portal and intake documents. All intake documents and consent forms allow you to provide an electronic signature for your convenience and security.

You will also be prompted to upload your insurance and payment information. This allows our billing team to verify your benefits in a timely manner. Your copay, deductible, or coinsurance rate will be charged to the credit card you have on file the evening following your appointment.

You’ll also use SimplePractice to securely access your web-based appointment.

Mid-Atlantic Psychotherapy’s web-based platform allows you a lot of convenience. And, not being obligated to be in the same place from week to week is one of them. Many people travel for personal or professional reasons and are able to maintain their weekly therapy appointments.

There is one very important thing to make note of, though. When you sign your intake and consent paperwork, you’ll see that it’s required that at the time of your appointment, you are physically located in the state that your therapist is licensed in. Licensing requirements vary from state to state and our providers must adhere to their professional board of regulations. Many of our providers are licensed in multiple states, so should your travel take you to one of those other states, there shouldn’t be a problem.

If you have questions about this, your therapist is happy to answer any of your questions.
