Anxiety is the most common mental health challenge in America, affecting nearly 30% of adults, and can stem from a chemical imbalance, environmental factors, or heredity. 5 Ways Anxiety Therapy Can Help
Anxiety therapy can help you:
Identify Triggers & Patterns
Anxiety therapy helps you identify specific triggers and patterns that may contribute to your anxiety. By understanding what causes your anxiety and how it manifests, you can develop strategies to manage it more effectively. Your therapist will work with you to explore the underlying factors driving your anxiety and develop personalized coping techniques tailored to your needs.
Learn Coping Skills
Anxiety therapy equips you with practical coping skills to manage anxiety symptoms when they arise. Your therapist will teach you relaxation techniques, mindfulness practices, and cognitive-behavioral strategies to help you regulate your emotions and calm your mind. These skills empower you to respond to anxiety triggers in healthier and more adaptive ways, reducing the impact of anxiety on your daily life.
Challenge Negative Thought Patterns
Anxiety therapy helps you challenge and reframe negative thought patterns that fuel anxiety. Your therapist will guide you in examining irrational beliefs and cognitive distortions that contribute to anxious thinking. Through cognitive-behavioral techniques, you’ll learn to replace negative thoughts with more realistic and balanced perspectives, empowering you to regain control over your thoughts and emotions.
Build Self-Confidence
Anxiety therapy focuses on building self-confidence and self-esteem to combat feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Your therapist will help you identify and challenge self-limiting beliefs that contribute to anxiety and develop a more compassionate and nurturing relationship with yourself. By recognizing your strengths and accomplishments, you’ll cultivate a greater sense of self-assurance and resilience in the face of overwhelming or anxiety-provoking situations.
Improve Communication Skills
Anxiety therapy provides opportunities to improve communication skills and assertiveness, reducing interpersonal stressors that contribute to anxiety. Your therapist will help you identify ineffective communication patterns and develop assertive communication techniques that align with your values in order to express your needs, set boundaries, and advocate for yourself effectively. Enhanced communication skills can lead to healthier relationships and reduce anxiety related to social interactions and conflict resolution.

Questions About Anxiety
Do you offer in-person anxiety therapy in Vienna, VA?
Do you offer a free consultation for anxiety therapy?
What if I’m “just an anxious person?” Can therapy help me?
We don’t believe that you are “just someone who is anxious” at your core. In a healthy expression, anxiety is a temporary response to perceived threats or stressors. When people begin to identify themselves with anxiousness as a fixed character trait, we consider what life circumstances or patterns have kept them stuck in a response that, in general, should be temporary or transient. Therapy can help you identify your core values and explore whether or not anxiety is keeping you from your fullest potential. If you decide that it is, our clinicians can help you create greater insight into how anxiety may have served you in the past, what parts of life anxiety is intruding upon now, and new strategies to practice to find some relief.
Isn’t everyone anxious?
Everyone experiences anxiety, of course. As a feeling, anxiety encompasses sensations of nervousness, apprehensiveness, or unease resulting from our brain’s response to a perceived threat or stressor. It can also be accompanied by physiological responses such as increased heart rate and shallow breathing. This temporary response is a good thing, it is intended to keep us alert and safe. Just like the circumstances we respond to, anxiety can vary in intensity and duration. This often influences our thoughts, behaviors, and overall well-being.
But, when anxiety doesn’t subside, the toll it takes on our body, mind, and relationships can be crippling. Living in a loop of worry or panic, perpetual fatigue, irritability, and physical ache/tension is suffering, not surviving.
Clinical forms of anxiety can manifest in many forms (generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, social anxiety, OCD, phobias, and panic). Therapy can help reduce your symptoms of anxiety and help you get back to living the life you deserve.
Do I need to take medication to manage anxiety?
While medication can help with anxiety symptoms, it won’t change stressful or overwhelming situations, and it doesn’t address the root causes like therapy does. Therapy offers a safe space to explore what’s behind your anxiety and learn practical strategies to manage it. Ultimately, the decision to pursue medication for anxiety should be made in consultation with a qualified healthcare professional, taking into account your individual needs, preferences, and the potential benefits and risks associated with medication.
What if my anxiety is keeping me afloat? Will my life fall apart?
You are a person who is living with a tremendous amount of resilience and perseverance. It’s proof of how much you have already achieved and your pursuit to maintain a successful life for yourself and your family. Making sustainable change and investing in your mental wellness is risky! And, we believe that when the physical and emotional symptoms of anxiety are quieted, when you get off the constant conveyor belt of day-to-day overwhelm, you can confidently make deliberate decisions that are better in line with your core values.
A lot of people have circumstances that are worse off than me, shouldn’t I just be grateful for the life I have?
Everyone’s circumstances are different, and, objectively, you may be living a life that many others admire or wish for. No matter what your situation is, you deserve to live a life with greater ease and happiness. Anxiety doesn’t discriminate, doesn’t care about your level of education, or the high-profile promotion you just received. Everyone is deserving of a space to focus on their mental wellness.
